Adidas Originals Is Bringing Two Of Style’s Coolest Subcultures Together

For anyone who had a reggae phase in college (which hopefully meant soaking up full albums like Exodus or maybe a little Burning Spear rather than dabbling in Legends like a dilettante), the new spring/summer ’17 Spezial collection from Adidas Originals will feel like a welcome piece of nostalgia. And even if you didn’t have a reggae phase, you’ll still likely appreciate the laid-back ’70s cool of this new lineup of tracksuits, jackets, polos, and sneakers from the Three Stripes. Harkening back to the days when British punk and soccer culture inspired Jamaican reggae style—and vice versa—the Spezial collection is a pitch-perfect mashup of two of modern history’s coolest subcultures. To showcase the new range, Adidas shot a five-minute video featuring Jamaican reggae artist Chronixx—soundtracked by a dub from Chronixx’s forthcoming album—that takes place in both Kingston, Jamaica and Lancashire, England. Both the video and the clothing perfectly exhibit how these two seemingly disparate cultures blended together seamlessly thanks to a shared love of music, soccer, and fashion. Read more at Esquire.
