American Apparel Names Pickman Head Men’s Designer

by Harry Sheff

American ApparelAmerican Apparel has hired Joseph Pickman as its new head of men’s design. Pickman had been the men’s design director at Band of Outsiders for the last three and a half years.

“We’re working on bringing our menswear business back, as this category has tremendous potential,” said CEO Paula Schneider in a statement. “The addition of Joe Pickman, who has worked for some of fashion’s leading brands, is a great win for American Apparel.”

The hiring is the latest of several since Schneider took over. In February, the company named Thoryn Stephens chief digital officer, a new position, and hired former Perry Ellis International executive Cynthia Erland as SVP of marketing.

American Apparel, which fired its controversial founder Dov Charney in December, has been working to clean up its image and turn the company around. It reported sales down 9% in the fourth quarter and narrowed its loss from $0.19 per share to $0.16 per share.
