Apps Are The Driving Force Behind Retail Sales And The Classified Market Boom

Apps are now the driving force behind retail sales. It was the web that was dragging customers away from the high street and shopping malls. Now it’s apps. Shopping is now a mobile-first industry. The first half of 2018 saw the greatest number of shopping app downloads ever, with over 2 billion across iOS and Google Play combined, reports app market data analytics company App Annie. This, the firm claims, indicates that both businesses and consumers are using mobile shop windows. So why have mobile shopping sessions risen by 45% globally in the first half of 2018 compared to the first half of 2016? Although they play a big part, international giants, such as Amazon and Wish, are not monopolizing retail app use. App Annie reports that marketplace apps, made up of classifieds and peer-to-peer services, took at least three of the top 10 spots for shopping apps in Germany, the U.K. and the U.S.A. when measured by downloads and monthly active users.
