Bill Gates And Jeff Bezos Are Battling With Zara Owner For World’s Richest Person
For a few hours, a Spanish businessman known to probably few Americans was the world’s wealthiest person. Amancio Ortega, 81, twice this week climbed to the top spot of Forbes’ ranking — besting Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates and Amazon big wig Jeff Bezos. The Spanish billionaire’s name might not ring a bell, but he’s a founder of Inditex, the parent company of clothing chain Zara. For a few hours Wednesday, his net worth came in just over $85 billion — a meager $200 million more than that of Gates, Forbes reported. But his reign ended quickly. Shares of Inditex dropped on the Spanish stock exchange and Gates retook the lead spot, according to the financial publication.
