The National Father’s Day Council has announced that Tom Kingsbury, president, chief executive officer, and chairman of Burlington Stores, has been named a 2019 “Father of the Year” Honoree.

Kingsbury is a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather and is a valuable and well-respected leader in the retail industry. He joined Burlington as the president, chief executive officer, and member of the Board of Directors in 2008. In 2014, he was appointed chairman of the Board. Under his leadership, the off-price retailer has thrived, becoming a Fortune 500 company in 2016, reaching $6.1 billion in revenue as of fiscal 2017, and operating 679 stores as of the end of the third quarter of Fiscal 2018. Prior to joining Burlington, Kingsbury was a senior executive vice president at Kohl’s Corporation. Preceding his time at Kohl’s, he held a progression of management positions with the May Department Stores Company, culminating as president and chief executive officer of the Filene’s/Kaufmann’s division.

Kingsbury is proud of Burlington’s caring culture and appreciates the commitment of its dedicated associates and customers who support many of its fundraising and corporate giving activities in the communities where it operates. Burlington raises millions of dollars for blood cancer research, provides warm coats to those in need, donates new toys to children suffering from life-threatening illnesses, helps provide funds to teachers to get the classroom materials for their students, and in times of natural disasters is quick to respond to those impacted. Burlington is also proud of its continued support of the National Father’s Day Council in its mission to contribute to issues affecting the life and well-being of men, women, and their families.

Kingsbury is active personally in philanthropic activities across a range of causes, including JDRF, National Center for Learning Disabilities, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He resides in Pennsylvania with his wife of 40 years, Nancy and is the father of four children and five grandchildren.

“It is an honor to recognize a father like Tom Kingsbury, whose unwavering passion for his family and community serve as an inspiration for many who have the pleasure to know him and his work,” said Dan Orwig, president and CEO of The Father’s Day/Mother’s Day Council. “With more than 40 years of industry experience, Mr. Kingsbury is a retail veteran with unparalleled experience and unique insights into the industry’s challenges, opportunities and operations. The Father’s Day Council congratulates Tom on this well-deserved award.”
