CHRISTIAN LOUBOUTIN TAKES US ON A DREAMY AIRPLANE RIDE FOR FALL PRESENTATION

by Stephen Garner

To present his fall/winter 2021 men’s and women’s collections, Christian Louboutin imagined a one-of-a-kind digital experience inspired by his love of travel. A fully interactive airplane was conceived to debut the collections via a dreamy air journey on Loubi Airways.

Shot at the iconic TWA Terminal at JFK Airport in New York—a space that embodies the glamorous Golden Age of air travel designed by architect Eero Saarinen—the intro film follows the LoubiCrew, a cast of dynamic figures decked in the newest offerings from the fall/winter 2021 collection.

The House continues to experiment with 3-D technology, following two previous playful, immersive experiences designed to showcase Louboutin’s creations in a virtual setting on the Drest and Zepeto apps. This season, guests were invited to explore a digitized LoubiPlane and discover a succession of 15 interactive animations featuring the key themes of the collection.

Capturing the collective desire to look to a future with limitless possibilities is the Caracaba. Featuring a bold print inspired by the traditional Tarot de Marseille deck and a bohemian lifestyle of travel and exploration, the Maison’s new seasonal Caba is the equivalent of a virtual trip around the world. Referencing iconic fabrics and prints, it offers a retrospective of previous iterations of the Cabas, including the Mexicaba, Africaba, and Portugaba to name only a few. A dedicated Caracaba capsule collection of Elisa bags, as well as men’s and women’s shoes, will launch in parallel.

Bold and playful, the new Loubi In Wonderland print takes its inspiration from Copenhagen’s Tivoli Garden and France’s legendary jardins à la française, reinventing them in acid bright colors for a provocative twist. Continuing this upbeat theme is the Oh Xtian! print, a patchwork composed of images from fashion magazines, retro adverts, movies and posters.
