Crain’s New York: Google’s Rejection Of Retail In SoHo Hints At Bigger Plans At Pier 57

In recent weeks, Google hired the SoHo-based brokerage firm Sinvin Real Estate to sublease a 5,442-square-foot-store it leased last year at 131 Greene St., where the search-engine giant had spent $6 million to refurbish what it once planned as a flagship retail location. The reversal comes as Google has shifted its real estate focus in the city to a 100,000-square-foot lease it is now arranging at Pier 57, a project on the Hudson River in the meatpacking district that has been rechristened by its developers as SuperPier.
