Menswear designer and 2015 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalist David Hart has collaborated with Thread Experiment, a website devoted to home bedding designed exclusively for men, for a limited-edition capsule collection that includes two exclusive designs. The two designs, which range from $98 for sheets to $168 for comforters, feature an anchor motif and a statement linen/cotton blend comforter in maroon, black and beige. We caught up with Hart to get some more insight into this unexpected collaboration.
Q: What inspired you to collaborate on bedding?
A: My friend Greg Shugar (one of Thread Experiment’s co-founders, also founder of The Tie Bar) reached out to me about a new project he was working on that was creating bedding for men. I thought it was a great idea and I have personally had difficulty in the past finding bedding that felt right for my space. It used to not be cool for guys to talk about these things, but now guys are interested in everything from their appearance, to their health, and their living space.
Q: Was the design process for this category hard to do?
A: The bedding collaboration felt natural for me because prints, patterns, and color are so prevalent in my own collection. All of these translate well into bedding that works well with a curated living space.
Q: What are your goals and expectations for this collaboration?
A: My hope is that guys start to step up their bedding game the same way that they’ve stepped up their wardrobe. I also hope that the collaboration can help make choosing bedding a much easier process. It’s overwhelming to find the right thing and there are so many options.
Q: Do you have any special interest in doing home product collaborations in the future?
A: I love home products, and I love spending time in spaces. I think it’s a natural evolution for me. I think it’s the most logical next step in growing David Hart as a lifestyle brand.
