Di Martino in Larger Fila Role

NEW YORK – Stefano di Martino, managing director of the Europe-Middle East-Africa (EMEA) region for Fila, has been named to the additional post of chief product and marketing officer for the Italian sports brand.

These responsibilities were previously handled by Robert Erb as chief marketing officer. Erb has left the firm to pursue other opportunities, the company said.

Di Martino joined Fila last year in his most recent post following tenures at Nike and HTM Italia. He will continue to be based in Milan, regional headquarters, and report to Steve Wynne, the firm’s New York-based chief executive officer.

In a statement, Wynne credited de Martino with playing a “critical role” in helping to “build on our Italian heritage to make it synonymous with design and quality craftsmanship…. He assumed the responsibility to direct our critical EMEA markets, and has proven that he can drive this brand to new heights. Now we have entrusted him with the global charge to continue to escalate our growth in an extremely competitive marketplace.”

Di Martino is a one-time Italian 5,000-meter track champion. “More than most, because of my heritage, I brought a particular passion to my position in Europe. I look forward to assuming such an integral role in restoring Fila to its rightful position among the world’s great athletic brands.”

Fila, a subsidiary of Sport Brands International (SBI), also announced this week that it has been named the footwear and apparel sponsor of the 2007 AT&T Austin Marathon. The combination marathon and half-marathon event is scheduled to be held in Austin, Texas, on Feb. 18, 2007.
