Q: Do you think athletic-inspired looks will continue to trend into next spring? Our fashion customers adopted this trend early on, but I’m not sure if our normal khaki and jean guys will like these sporty looks.
Steve Pruitt: Activewear has been having an influence on fashion for a while now, particularly in the fabrications. Characteristics such as mesh fabrics, prominent seaming, wash and dry capabilities, and even a more draped look have made their way into day-to-day dressing.
The good news for menswear merchants is that this style gives you a way to gain share from activewear retailers. This is part of an overall casual lifestyle trend and we will definitely see more of it for spring ‘16.
And, just like the washed look, I predict that active styling is here to stay as a type of fabrication. There is a good portion of shoppers attracted to this look, so embrace it!

I agree with that prediction. Athleisure is a unique style that people have really embraced and put their own look into, and it’s just getting started!
