DOCKERS PARTNERS WITH MAURIZIO DONADI TO EXPLORE THE EVOLUTION OF KHAKI

by Stephen Garner

Dockers has joined forces with Transnomadica — Maurizio Donadi’s fashion curation project featuring vintage apparel, accessories, and found objects — to introduce a new partnership called ‘Oh Khaki, My Khaki.’ Launching today on Transnomadica.com, ‘Oh Khaki, My Khaki’ features a collection of over 100 pieces of unique vintage khaki and casual lifestyle garments, ranging from the late ‘80s to the early ‘90s.

Transnomadica, founded in the summer of 2020 by Donadi, is an archival and vintage e-commerce marketplace motivated by curiosity and an attraction to well made, lived-in items. Donadi’s collection represents the “best of” vintage, with a unique history and/or story behind each piece, and highlights the environmental sustainability and long-term value of clothing that’s made to last. The driving force behind the “Oh Khaki, My Khaki” partnership was an examination of the everlasting appeal of khaki, and a search for pieces featuring pre-2000s labels and tags.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Maurizio and explore another sustainable opportunity together, as planet-friendly endeavors are top priority for us,” said Lauren Johnson, Global Head of Dockers Marketing. “But on top of that, it’s actually Dockers 35th anniversary this year. Exploring Dockers heritage through the lens of our own vintage product takes us back to what made Dockers successful from the start. The brand has always believed in a casual lifestyle, and has designed and created products with intention, and to inspire confidence. This partnership with Maurizio proves that what Dockers makes endures – both literally and from a style point of view. That’s meaningful.”

While ‘Oh Khaki, My Khaki’ allows for an opportunity to shop premium one-of-a-kind vintage, it also sparks an appreciation for the history behind what we wear. And while timeless styles — like pleats, cargos, cuffed-hems, patchwork flannels, washed crewnecks, and more — can be easily found on production lines today, Transnomadica focuses on the appeal of historic vintage and archival garments, which acquire more value with time, and honor both cultural artistry and the “beauty of imperfection across time and place.”

“The long nomadic journey of our clothes is of great interest to me,” added Donadi. “While constantly researching for unique and inspiring objects for the Transnomadica archive, I come across brands and their products that merit observation, study, and ultimately worth prolonging their lives. Not many brands have been so democratic in price and of good quality as Dockers. The simplicity, usefulness, and honesty of the Dockers products make Dockers a special brand and one of very few responsible for establishing khaki pants as globally recognized for the American Casual Look. The assortment of products we sourced for this project reflects the product philosophy of this brand and the purity of its message: for all to use and for a long time. All products are ready for their second lives.”

This partnership is not the first time that Dockers and Donadi have teamed up together. In 2019, Dockers collaborated with Donadi’s Atelier & Repairs on a collection that used one of Dockers’ most classic, best-selling silhouettes — the Signature Khaki — only reimagined and upcycled with utilitarian style elements to promote sustainability within the apparel industry.

The Dockers + Transnomadica ‘Oh Khaki, My Khaki’ vintage collection ranges from $45 to $125 and is now available on Transnomadica.com. The shoppable collection will be accompanied by original blog content and photos by Transnomadica that investigates khaki through the centuries and illustrates the range and diversity of khaki. ‘Oh Khaki, My Khaki’ will be featured on Transnomadica.com through February 2021.
