Garrett Leight California Optical (GLCO) has opened its first New York store at 149 Grand Street in SoHo. This opening marks the first East Coast outpost for the Venice-based, California-inspired brand. Combining California cool with the culture and collaborative spirit of New York, the 900-square-foot space is a true reflection of the GLCO identity.

Architects West of West worked closely with Garrett Leight to create a new experience guests by mixing muted neutral materials such as birch, white brick and grey oak with dashes of bright orange. The store will feature a series of spaces where guests can immerse themselves in the world of GLCO, and embrace culture in all art-forms, music, design and literature.

To celebrate its New York arrival, GLCO has created a limited-edition frame inspired by the late Allen Ginsberg, the renowned American poet. Available in four colors, the frame is made with a flat base lens and the highest quality materials and production techniques. Each of the 150 frames produced will have ‘Only in New York’ stamped on the inside of the frame to mark this special occasion, and can be purchased in-store or online.

“Our SoHo store is where the world of Garrett Leight California Optical plays out in a uniquely New York context,” says Leight. “Choosing the right eyewear is a personal experience, and we understand the value in creating an equally personal space for our guests. Even as a proud Angeleno, I respect New York as the fashion capital of the world. Opening this store fulfills a lifelong dream.”
