On The Hunt For Customers, Retailers Turn To Corporate Events

A handful of Chicago-area retailers are turning to corporate events to supplement regular foot traffic and introduce themselves to new customers. At Kapow, a Chicago company that helps corporate clients organize events for customers or employees, retail events are second only to cocktail receptions in popularity, said founder and Executive Chairman Marc Halpin. Kapow organizes events “comfortably in the hundreds” each year across more than 20 cities, he said. For the companies, private shopping parties or events where guests can personalize an item are a way to stand out. Kari Messenger, who organizes meetings for the Association Management Center and attended the Laudi Vidni party, said she’s not always excited about the monthly invitations she gets to corporate events during post-work personal time.
