JAPANESE DESIGNER FUMITO GANRYU TO LAUNCH EPONYMOUS LABEL AT PITTI UOMO

Japanese designer Fumito Ganryu will launch his eponymous label of the same name at the upcoming edition of at Italian trade show Pitti Uomo, which will take place June 12-15 in Florence. Ganryu joins Craig Green as menswear guest designer and Roberto Cavalli as special guest of the summer edition of the trade show.

As the Designer Project at Pitti Uomo 94, Ganryu will debut his collection which will serve as an “exploration of the ever-closer relationship between body and clothes, revealing the pure essence of Ganryu’s personal style: a new take on modern and conceptual,” according to a statement issued today by the designer.

Born in 1976 in Fukuoka, Japan, Ganryu decided to pursue fashion early on by attending and graduating from Bunka Fashion College in Tokyo in 2000. He joined Comme des Garçons as a pattern maker for Junya Watanabe in 2004, and later started his own line Ganryu under the Comme des Garçons label in 2007. This launch at Pitti Uomo marks the designer’s first independent brand.

“It is an honor for me to have this wonderful opportunity to debut at Pitti Uomo,” said Ganryu. “I will do my best to express my vision taking it to new directions.”
