JUNIOR’S LAUNCHES MADE-TO-ORDER SHIRT PROGRAM

by Stephen Garner

Starting a new business has hurdles under normal circumstances but throw a pandemic in the mix and it can be near impossible. With the virus peaking across the United States and the cold winter weather driving people indoors, outdoor client meetings transformed into Zoom calls. However, any good business owner will tell you that you have to adapt to the times while not losing sight of your vision. Junior’s Clothing founder Glenn Au did just that with the launch of his Made-to-Order (MTO) shirt program.

Keeping with the brand’s agenda of having a focused offering, the Junior’s MTO shirt program offers clients a made in America blue Oxford cloth custom shirt created to their neck and sleeve measurements in their choice of three fits. Working with his shirtmaker on the East Coast, Au offers a shirt that’s both simple and classic featuring his Ivy Style inspired button-down collar with soft fusing and interlining, box pleat back, 8-button front, rounded cuffs, and pocket detailing.

This new offering can also have more personalization with the option for monogramming, flap pockets, or a third button on the rear of the collar made popular in the mid-century by legendary shirtmaker Gant. Blue Oxford cloth isn’t the only option either; a Junior’s MTO shirt can be made from any cloth in its extensive library, from stripes to plaids. And, Au plans to add limited run cloth and seasonal shirtings that will be unique to Junior’s.

“Since I started Junior’s and began to promote my shirts, I have had numerous requests for an MTO program, especially from clients who want to work with Junior’s long distance,” said Au. “It took a few months but now the Junior’s shirt can be owned by anyone, anywhere and that’s very exciting and necessary under the current circumstances. A great aspect of our MTO shirt program is that there are no limits. I plan to roll out exclusive and seasonal cloth and expand the offerings of MTO shirts in the webshop. There’s a lot to look forward to.”

Started in February 2020 by Au, Junior’s is the culmination of 8 years of experience in the men’s clothing industry. With stops along the way including O’Connell’s in Au’s hometown of Buffalo, New York, and most recently at H. Stockton in Atlanta, Georgia, Au has learned from the best haberdasheries in the country. Junior’s operates both online and in the Philadelphia metro area by appointment.
