KIDSUPER DEBUTS CAPSULE AND SCULPTURE AS PART OF MERCEDES’ “CLASS OF CREATORS”
At an event at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Louvre Museum, KidSuper unveiled his one-of-a-kind Mercedes-Benz CLA art piece, which served as a backdrop to the debut of his new capsule. Colm Dillane, also known as KidSuper, unveiled his SS26 collection.
The collection is a collaboration between KidSuper and Mercedes. Mercedes, for its part, handed Dillane the keys to the new Mercedes-Benz CLA to draw inspiration, making him the 3rd of 5 intended recipients they have referred to as the Class of Creators. Each of the artists has been allowed to take inspiration from the vehicle and given a “blank slate” to unleash their imagination.
That inspiration took KidSuper in the direction of “superhero car,” as Dillane put it. The 13-piece capsule blends tailoring, leisurewear, and mechanic Americana, featuring jackets, shirts, trousers, and a trench coat, as well as hats, bags, and a suitcase.
Mercedes first announced the Class of Creators in March, and the first to appear in the roster was musician Ice Spice in April. Interior designer Gustaf Westman followed this in May, and now KidSuper. Mercedes has been no stranger to this style of collaboration, having previously teamed up with Virgil Abloh, A$AP Rocky, Roger Federer, Lewis Hamilton, and Nigo, as well as the fashion house Proenza Schouler. But with the new endeavor, Mercedes says it has given its collaborators carte blanche to explore inspiration by presenting them with the automobile itself. Who knows where this road will lead?
