KOREAN STREETWEAR BRAND SHALAJ MARKS MOVE TO THE UNITED STATES WITH TIMES SQUARE FLASHMOB

by John Russel Jones

Korean luxury streetwear brand, Shalaj has been making the United States its new home. The brainchild of South Korean graphic designer and creative director, Shalaj Poonyarit, the collection features graffiti-like — sometimes nightmarish — graphics, printed on T-shirts, hoodies, and outerwear.  The brand made its retail debut earlier this year at the fashion-forward Los Angeles retailer H. Lorenzo. The collection retails from $650 for a T-shirt to $920 for a hoodie, to $5,700 for outerwear.

While you may have missed it during the madness of market week and Times Square’s post-COVID crowds, but the brand also brought art to life last Summer in New York City. On July 23rd, Poonyarit gathered some of Shalaj’s street culture fans, dressed in its Moments and Deception collections to perform a choreographed flashmob in the city’s center.
