Macy’s announced changes in its executive structure, including many promotions, in the wake of the merging of store and online buying functions. Among the biggest changes: Timothy Baxter, EVP/GMM for ready-to-wear, has been promoted to chief merchant, reporting to Macy’s president Jeff Gennette; chief stores officer Peter Sachse has been promoted to chief for innovation and business development; and Jeff Kantor, the chairman of Macys.com, will now be chief stores officer. Sachse and Kantor report to Macy’s Inc. CEO Terry Lundgren.

“Macy’s, Inc. has developed into a very powerful growth story with significant opportunity still ahead,” said Lundgren. “We have profitably grown total sales by more than $5 billion over the past five years with a slight decline in the number of stores. Our company benefits from extraordinary and deep talent at all levels, and we are creating new opportunities for well-rounded and experienced executives who understand the value of placing the customer at the center of all decisions as shopping patterns evolve. These management assignments allow some of our most senior people to apply their expertise in new directions and to take our company to the next level of success.”

The other changes in detail are as follows:

Molly Langenstein, formerly EVP of men’s and kids private brands, is now Macy’s chief private brands officer; she succeeds Tim Adams (now chief for international business development).

Patti Ongman, formerly EVP of omni-channel strategies, is now chief merchandise planning officer; she succeeds the retiring Julie Greiner.

Martine Reardon will continue as chief marketing officer, adding new omni-channel responsibilities.

Langenstein, Ongman and Reardon, along with Baxter, report to president Jeff Gennette.

As mentioned above, former chief private brands officer Tim Adams is now chief for international business development.

Kent Anderson, president of Macys.com since 1998, will now be president for innovation.
Adams and Anderson will report to Sachse.

R.B. Harrison continues as chief omni-channel officer for Macy’s Inc., overseeing both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s. He reports to Lundgren.

The roles of Bloomingdale’s CEO Tony Spring, Macy’s Inc. CFO Karen Hoguet and Macy’s, Inc. chief human resources officer William Allen are unchanged.
