New York City’s retail sector was already struggling before the coronavirus pandemic indefinitely shuttered tens of thousands of shops and restaurants across the five boroughs. Now, the mandated shutdown of stores is proving to be the last straw for many as they confront the near-impossible task of keeping up operations and paying their bills while their doors remain closed — with no clear picture of when their suspension will end. As business owners struggle to stay afloat while adapting their services and merchandise to online platforms, many are bracing for wide-scale damage. “In a good case scenario we’re still going to see a lot of the places that we’ve come to know and love disappear,” said Jessica Walker, president of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce. “There is no good news here.   1. I still don’t understand why liquor stores and pet stores are allowed to open but a small clothing store that can control the amount of customers that come in can’t reopen .
