PEEP THE PRE-FALL 2022 COLLECTION OF CARTER YOUNG

by Christopher Blomquist

For his pre-fall 2022 collection, Carter Altman, founder and creative director of Carter Young, continues to explore his understanding of Americana in today’s world. The collection follows the American, outsider craft tradition through the upcycling of vintage scarves and dead-stock materials. Pieces are adorned with detailing including western paneling, faux menswear shirting snaps and the use of the brand’s signature Appaloosa print. The silhouettes expand the range of key items for the line, including the western shirt, cropped suiting jackets, high-waisted unisex trousers, denim jackets and Americana uniforms.

But why create a pre-seasonal collection in the first place? “Main collections, which traditionally coincide with fashion week, are at odds with end of season markdowns – the product sometimes only lives for a month before the customer expects discounts,” the designer explains. “As the industry moves away from traditional fashion weeks, we saw the opportunity to create a collection that lives longer at full price.”

Speaking of prices, shirts in the new offering range from $325 – $395, pants from $275 – $355 and outerwear from $655 – $955.

The label is currently sold on the brand’s own e-commerce site and in specialty stores.
