PUMA AND MCM TEAM UP ON APPAREL, FOOTWEAR CAPSULE
Puma and MCM have teamed on a capsule collection in honor of the 50th anniversary of Puma’s iconic “Suede” sneaker.
The “Suede” sneaker was born in 1968 at the summer Olympic games in Mexico then transitioned as a court shoe in the heydays of basketball in New York City. From the track, to the court, to the curb, from the MCs of the ’80s and to the hustlers of today, it’s a sneaker that has stood the test of time. Debuted in 1976, MCM’s Visetos canvas is a symbol of fashion and creativity—for the jet-set of then and the nomads of now. Alone and together they are emblems of hip-hop culture, the ultimate signifiers of streetwise authenticity.
The Puma X MCM line of footwear and apparel pays tribute to the founding days of hip hop—when the brands first became expressions of music culture. The resulting designs channel the DIY spirit of this era and deliver the new urban icons of today.
Made in Italy, the 50th anniversary Suede features durable Visetos canvas—redeveloped specifically for this product to offer greater breathability and comfort. On the shoe’s tongue, a gleaming, jewelry-polished brass plate bears the MCM logo and a unique registration number—a nod to the exclusivity of MCM’s famous handbags. Each pair includes coordinated laces in two distinct styles: leather with contrasting edge-stain and fabric with metal tips.
The apparel is also a nod to hip-hop culture. The classic Puma T7 track jacket and pants, with signature 7cm taping on the sides, is reimagined with swag and sophistication. The T7 ensemble features a slouchy fit that cuts a classic urban silhouette with textured nylon panels, embroidered in the Visetos pattern. The T7 Jacket’s back features a varsity-style patch that proudly displays the MCM logo. Both pieces are offered in classic cognac and red-blue multicolor.
The Puma x MCM limited-edition collection, which retails between $250 and $350, is available on Thursday, May 24 at MCM and Puma shops and select retail locations worldwide.
