ROWING BLAZERS AND MURRAY’S TOGGERY “NANTUCKET REDS” CONTINUE PARTNERSHIP

by John Russel Jones

The second time is so much better, baby! The NYC-based Rowing Blazers brand is continuing its partnership with Nantucket’s historic Murray’s Toggery Shop with a new capsule featuring items from Murray’s iconic Nantucket Reds Collection. In addition to the capsule, Rowing Blazers will continue to operate a pop-up shop inside the Murray’s Toggery flagship on Nantucket, a special arrangement that dates back to 2018.

The capsule features items from Murray’s celebrated Nantucket Reds Collection, including a fleece vest and full-zip jacket, a crewneck sweatshirt, a long-sleeve button-down shirt, cotton canvas gym shorts, cotton mesh pique polo shirts in multiple styles, adult’s and kids’ baseball caps, ladies’ overalls, slim-fit pants and jean skirts, and kids’ bucket hats and baseball caps.

Nestled atop quaint and cobblestoned Main Street in Nantucket’s Downtown Historic District, the legendary Murray’s Toggery Shop officially opened in 1945, but its roots can be traced to a location that was first founded by R. H. Macy as a dry goods store in 1843. Becoming a toggery shop in 1916, the store provided locals with essentials like footwear, waders, hunting clothes and foul weather gear. In the 1960s, Murray’s introduced its iconic “Nantucket Reds” canvas: a durable, dusty reddish fabric that’s “guaranteed to fade” and has since come to define the island’s aesthetic identity. Today, the shop still proudly anchors both the north end of Main Street and the Nantucket community at large.

Rowing Blazers’ “Nantucket Reds” is available at rowingblazers.com. Prices range from $30 to $135 retail.
