SCHMOOZING: ACNE STUDIOS OPENS WEST VILLAGE LOCATION

by Stephen Garner

Swedish luxury brand Acne Studios celebrated the opening of its new store in Manhattan’s West Village neighborhood on Tuesday, December 1. This is the second Acne Studios location in New York, following the store on Greene Street in SoHo.

The 400-square-foot store was designed by acclaimed architect Sophie Hicks, and is defined by its floor-to-ceiling lightboxes of frosted glass, which give a sense of daylight throughout. These are placed among walls of stainless steel; the key material of this new generation of Acne Studios stores. Additionally, modern artisanal furniture, including plinths and stools, were created specially by Max Lamb.

“I have passed by this location many times while out walking in New York City, said Mikael Schiller, chairman. “Unlike other corners of the West Village, it is not “quaint” in the tradition of the neighborhood. Acne Studios Horatio Street is located in a large residential building, the space has a low ceiling, yet gives a generous and strong impression. With its illuminated walls, the stainless steel fit out, and the polished concrete floor, it almost feels more like Hong Kong than New York. The result is our interpretation of a local neighborhood shop in the Acne Studios universe.”
