SHINOLA TEAMS UP WITH SILLY PUTTY

by Stephen Garner

In celebration of Silly Putty’s 71st birthday, Shinola has teamed up with the colorful, stretchy toy on a collaborative take on the watchmaker’s signature Detrola style.

With a cherry red case, sandblasted dial color-matched to old school Silly Putty, and aqua silicone strap, the collaborative style is as instantly recognizable as the stretchable putty itself. And because of its strong stainless-steel core, durable TR90 resin case, and hand-assembled Argonite 705 movement, the Silly Putty Detrola watch is built to last. Plus, every Silly Putty Detrola will include a classic red egg of original Silly Putty.

“Detrola is our most expressive, colorful watch collection to date, with an appreciation for the past and an eye towards the future,” said Shannon Washburn, CEO of Shinola. “Silly Putty is such a fun, iconic American product; a level of ‘iconic’ that we aspire to be. We are so excited to be collaborating with Crayola on a watch that embodies both brands’ aesthetics and excites both brands’ audiences.”

“For 71 years, Silly Putty has had many uses – from stress-relief putty to cleaning keyboards,” added Warren Schorr, vice president of business development and global licensing at Crayola, Silly Putty’s parent company. “Today, we join another American-born brand, Shinola, to celebrate its inventiveness and longevity with a new, commemorative watch.”

The Silly Putty Detrola, which retails for $395, is now available at Shinola stores, on shinola.com, and at select wholesale partners.
