Sperry teams up with sunspel on footwear

by Stephen Garner

Sperry has teamed up with Sunspel on a limited-edition footwear capsule. Sperry’s signature Authentic Original boat shoe, handcrafted at the footwear brand’s workshop in Maine, features clean, tonal suede uppers, and is on offer in two colors — navy blue and brown suede.

The Sperry for Sunspel shoes are made from luxury materials sourced from Charles F. Stead & Co.- the world-class, family-owned tannery renowned for its top-quality British leathers and suedes. Impeccable attention to detail includes leather welting and perforated leather linings for breathability. Sperry’s signature tri-color beef roll stitching appears in Sunspel’s signature neutral palette, and the same triple stitch detail appears in the lambskin footbed. Leather laces are embossed with Sperry Sunspel branding, and Vibram outsoles offer maximum comfort, sustainability, and durability.

“Both Sperry and Sunspel share a unique place in fashion history, and this partnership represents a collaboration between two great heritage brands,” said James Hilton, vice president of product management at Sperry. “We’re thrilled to partner with Sunspel, and draw on decades of craftsmanship to create beautiful, artisanal shoes that are sure to become future classics.”

“Sunspel makes beautiful, everyday clothing to be the foundation of the modern luxury wardrobe,” added David Telfer, head of design at Sunspel. “We have been handcrafting garments in the UK for over 160 years. Our focus on expert craftsmanship and luxury fabrics allowed us to subtly rework Sperry’s iconic Made in Maine boat shoe with butter-soft British suede, tonal detailing, and Sperry’s unique Vibram Sole. The result is a great addition to our summer essentials.”

The Sperry for Sunspel capsule, which retails for $375, is now available exclusively at sperry.com, sperrytopsider.co.uk, sunspel.com, and Sunspel’s London and New York stores.
