SPRING/SUMMER 2026 PITTI REPORT: DAY THREE

by John Russel Jones

As the temperatures rose in Florence last week, so did the challenge of looking stylish and elegant, despite the heat. The men of Pitti, as always, did not disappoint, contributing plenty of screen-shottable, Pinterest board-worthy ensembles.

Maybe the fashion zeitgeist sensed that something was in the air last week, as a subtle nod to military styling, always a staple in menswear, muscled its way to the front of the formation. Querelle-like navy stripes, British khaki and olive-drab suits, and bellows-pocketed CPO jacket looks all caught our attention.

Remember our school bus yellow guy from day two? We were rushing that trend a bit, as yellow seems to be another up-and-coming hue, following shortly behind those ubiquitous pinks and purples. We’re seeing it again here, worn alone or as an accent color to classic blues. It’s especially subtle in Robert Talbott SVP James Watson’s neatly patterned banana tie, and we love this couple’s abstract-print jackets (although I can’t imagine that chenille-like fabric was very cooling in the Italian sun: kudos for sacrificing comfort for great style).

Finally, we’re always fans of white for summer, and these looks are positively inspirational. Our last November 2024 cover guy, Nick Wooster, shows how to do white—and the new shorts—just right, while these white suit wearers would make both Tom Wolfe and Mark Twain proud.

Grazie mille to our man-on-the-strada photographer John Michael Arcella for truly capturing the soul and style of Pitti Uomo last week.
