SPRING/SUMMER 2026 PITTI REPORT: DAY TWO
For Day Two of our photographic missive from Florence, we’re focusing on some of the casual looks that our intrepid photographer, John Michael Arcella has captured for us. Volume has also hit the more relaxed silhouettes of the Pitti contingent this season. While we’ve been hearing about the ongoing interest in short shorts, here we’re seeing to-the-knee versions ( we hear the temperatures have edged up into the 90s during the show, so we can hardly blame travelers for baring their legs). We particularly admire the young man below, who has created a dandified look by layering a denim popover, baggy khaki shorts, a white shirt, and a tie, completing the look with a boater. We’re also big fans of the crisp white dress shirt, worn a bit oversized and untucked over shorts. Both are sort of elegant and easy at the same time.
Classic menswear tropes, such as the Dandy, military looks, and athletic styling, prevailed: one man mixing his armed services with a well-worn USS Pennsylvania cap paired with a crisp white USMC shirt. We also love the rowing club tank top paired with olive green fatigues that another gentleman sports, but that does require being in good physical shape to pull the look off.
Classic tailoring fabrics and suiting are skillfully mixed into these casual looks, too, sometimes polished, sometimes a bit more weathered and, frankly, bedraggled. Finally, kudos to the man out for the passeggiata wearing the school bus yellow suit: He draws our attention, but looks completely at ease in the admiration.
