THE FABRIC OF FREEDOM
Sunday is Pride Day around the country, and no one loves a celebration more than New Yorkers! This year’s Pride Parade will take place on Sunday, the last Sunday in June, the 29th. Thousands of people, if they have shirts on at all, will likely be parading around wearing Pride T-shirts. Here are MR’s top five favorites from Brooks Brothers, Lingua Franca, Coach, Levi’s, and Calvin Klein/Marc Hundley.
On a serious note, one of the organizations doing much of the work is Heritage of Pride, a non-profit that works toward a future without discrimination, where all people have equal rights under the law. They do this by producing the LGBTQIA and Pride events, in hopes to inspire, educate, commemorate, and celebrate diversity and community.
Another theme for the celebration is “The Fabric of Freedom,” according to WorldPrideDC 2025. The idea here is to highlight individual threads (identities, cultures, backgrounds) coming together to create a stronger, more resilient community.
Then there’s an organization called NYCPride, whose theme is “Rise Up: Pride in Protest.” According to the San Francisco Chronicle, a local SF group has a similar theme: “Queer Joy is Resistance” portrays the activist aspect of the LGBTQ+ experience.
MR commends the peaceful and loving spirit of these various celebrations; we wish a safe and happy day of joy to all.
