The Magic of MAGIC

Way back when I first was interviewing for this job at MR, someone asked me, “Do you really want to have to be writing about the business of menswear all the time?” I don’t think I even paused for a second before I said, “Of course I do!”

On the other hand, I have to admit that, when my ride from McCarran Airport crossed in front of the Las Vegas Convention Center, my stomach did a little back-flip. I just wasn’t quite sure if I was mentally prepared for the onslaught of apparel that I was about to encounter. But yesterday, MAGIC’s opening day, just convinced me why I really do love this business, and reminded me how lucky I am to have this job.

It started with an early morning Doneger presentation where Abbey Doneger’s team of trend analysts shared their infectious excitement about the style and business trends they forecast for the coming season, to a couple of late-night conversations with exhibitors who are passionate about developing superior product and building strong businesses. And already, Wednesday morning, I’m already feeling like there just isn’t enough time….
