VESTIAIRE COLLECTIVE DEBUTS DIRECT SHIPPING IN U.S. AS IT CLOSES A NEW ROUND OF FUNDING

by Stephen Garner

After an overall tumultuous month for the fashion industry and the successful completion of a $64 million round of new financing, global fashion resale platform Vestiaire Collective has launched its Direct Shipping service in the U.S. for all items under $500.

To further give back to its community at this time, many of whom rely on resale as a form of income, Vestiaire Collective will offer free shipping and no additional fees on all Direct Shipping purchases.

For the first time, buyers in the U.S. can opt-out of physical quality control and authentication at check out and receive their purchases directly from sellers. The service decreases average shipping costs for buyers by $20, reduces delivery time by nearly 40 percent, and reduces shipping-related carbon emissions.

Initially launched in September 2019 in Europe, Direct Shipping has proven popular with consumers, with 70 percent of all purchases under $500 choosing to use the service.

Founded during the 2009 recession as the trusted alternative for fashion resale, Vestiaire Collective has grown from a female-founded business run from a Parisian apartment to a truly global platform with offices in Paris, NYC, London, Berlin, and Hong Kong, as well as over 9 million members in 90 countries, and 60,000 new items listed to our catalog weekly. The company is rapidly growing, with plans for expansion to Japan and South Korea in 2020.
