Ever since the mid-nineties when e-commerce was invented, online businesses have had to live and breathe by the use of keywords. But if current trends are any indication, keywords may lose their power in visual industries, such as fashion and home décor. Pinterest’s CEO, Ben Silbermann, recently remarked that, “The future of search will be about pictures rather than keywords. The numbers are certainly there to support the theory. On Silberman’s own platform, over 600 million visual searches are conducted each month. According to MarketWatch, 62% of Millennial and Generation Z customers want visual search more than any other new technology.
