A FABRIC AFFAIR SETS THE BENCHMARK FOR HIGH-END TEXTILES IN THE USA

by Julian Randall

A Fabric Affair, the leading high-end textile event, returns to New York on January 15th. This exclusive gathering brings together Europe’s top textile producers and American brands at 450 West 31st Street. The event will host a record 70 exhibitors and expects to welcome over 400 visitors over two days. Among the Italian participants are Bonotto, Canclini, Faliero Sarti, Mantero, Rainbow by Ratti, Reda, Tessuti di Sondrio, and Tollegno. The UK is the second most represented country at the event, with weavers such as Abraham Moon, Alfred Brown, British Millerain, and Stephen Walters. France comes next, with exhibitors including Malhia Kent and Jean Bracq.

A Fabric Affair continues to celebrate the artistry, tradition, and innovation of high-end textiles, offering a unique platform for collaboration and inspiration. Conceived as a way to restore in-person connections after the pandemic, the event is now in its sixth edition and has shown consistent growth since its debut in July 2022. A Fabric Affair workshops have quickly become essential for buyers from leading U.S. fashion brands: a strong commitment to quality and authenticity, the careful selection of exhibitors, and the organization of tailored networking opportunities are central to the event, aiming to highlight the timeless art of textile craftsmanship.

“The cornerstone of true sustainability is offering quality and longevity that counteracts the wasteful cycle of fast fashion” says Dominick Addison, sales manager at Stephen Walters. “By valuing craftsmanship and durability, we promote responsible consumption and reduce environmental impact”.

Maurizio Sarti, owner of Lanificio Faliero Sarti, adds that “amid the global textile crisis, now impacting the wealthy Asian clientele as well, what brands need in the current risk-averse textile market is true bold research from their vendors, and A Fabric Affair, showcasing exhibitors who prioritize R&D, provides the best answer to this demand.”

Since 2023, the number of A Fabric Affair events has doubled with the addition of a Los Angeles workshop alongside the New York edition, solidifying the presence of top mills on the calendar. Currently, there are four A Fabric Affair events taking place on both coasts of the U.S.: January and July on the East Coast, and February and September on the West Coast.
