DANNER X TOPO DESIGNS COLLECTION

by John Russel Jones

For a lot of us, the “outdoor” category means a focus on specialized apparel and equipment that only elite athletes training for the big race/climb/swim/ or whatever the event will ever wear.  For the rest of us who may want to comfortably enjoy a weekend hike or even a morning commute, footwear maker Danner and Colorado-based Topo Designs have teamed up to release a limited-edition collection featuring a fleece pullover, backpack, and boots, all with a delightfully 1990s palette and aesthetic.

The Danner X Topo Designs Mountain Fleece Pullover features a relaxed fit with a center front half-zip closure. DWR nylon overlays on the elbows and collar add durability, and it’s made of 100% recycled polyester and nylon (Suggested retail, $139). The Free Spirit limited-edition boots have a GORE-TEX waterproof liner (those soggy winter days may be here for some of us, El Niño or not!) while a removable Ortholite footbed adds support for those long hikes ($230). Finally, the Mountain Pack 16l features a main compartment a laptop sleeve, as well as a padded back panel and contoured shoulder straps that work with the waist and sternum straps for comfort while carrying heavy loads ($129).

The collaboration is currently available at both Danner’s and Topo’s website and stores.
