James McCann, starting catcher for the Detroit Tigers, has been named the face and first official brand ambassador for Detroit-based e-tailer Lawrence Hunt.

The company, which launched in early 2016, uses a patent-pending design and applying performance fabric technology to traditional 100 percent cotton dress shirts. Men’s shirts retail for $65.

McCann, who is 26, has been with the Tigers since 2014. In May 2016, he set a Major League Baseball record for most consecutive starts at catcher without committing an error, which ended at 139 games.

“The first time I tried on a Lawrence Hunt shirt, I loved it immediately,” said McCann. “I had never seen a shirt like it before. The extra stretch in the arms helps the shirt move with me. I can look and feel great after a game or when I’m out to dinner with my wife, not worrying about sweating.”

“It’s exciting to have James on our team,” said Jeff Schattner, CEO of Lawrence Hunt. “He’s a leader both on and off the field and a perfect fit for our brand. And the fact that he believes in the long-term growth of Lawrence Hunt says a lot about his faith in and support of the burgeoning Detroit startup scene.”
