DOUGLAS HAYWARD: THE POWER OF NEW!

by Karen Alberg Grossman

I hear it all the time: we don’t need another tailored clothing brand! Retailers insist that they already carry more than enough suit brands, so unless they drop one, there’s no need for another. As a firm believer in dropping slow-turning merchandise to make room for what’s fresh and new, I don’t understand the reluctance.

I just viewed the Fall ‘25 Douglas Hayward collection out of England and found it exceptional for many reasons. Designer Arnie Silverstone has managed to interpret British style in softly constructed garments and sumptuous fabrics. The collection, including sportswear, knits and outerwear, is well priced (half-canvas suits are $895-$995 suggested retail; sport coats $695-$795)) with good margins for retailers. There’s also a capsule Steve McQueen collection featuring his iconic trenchcoat!

For those unfamiliar with Douglas Hayward, he was the London-based custom tailor in the 1960s and ‘70s, dressing everyone from Ralph Lauren and Michael Caine to Terence Stamp, Richard Burton, and Tony Bennett.

Fall ‘25 previews will be November 18-26 and December 2-6 in NYC. New York market runs Jan 15-28; the Chicago Collective is Feb 1-4. The collection is also showing at Pitti Uomo. For all appointments, contact Negi Darsses, negi@nvdmarketing.com, or Arnie Silverstone, arnoldbrant@arnoldbrant.com.
