Good Moods

by Elise Diamantini

As we reported last week, Moods of Norway just opened their second single-branded U.S. store, in New York (the first was in LA). And if you’ve ever met the owners, Stefan Dalhkvist, Simen Staalnacke and Peder Børresen, then you understand why I asked them for a personal tour. These fun-loving, happy Norwegians are not afraid to crack a few jokes and spice things up! The store is splashed with their colorful suits and sportswear, kitschy accessories (like their signature pink tractor and traditional Norwegian treats) and non-traditional (but functional) fixtures, all of which highlight Moods’ fall 2012 theme, “Cocktail Mountaineering.”

As Simen tells us, Moods of Norway makes clothes for a guy’s various “moods,” so they offer three collections: Cocktail (formalwear), Casual (classic suiting), and Street (sportswear). Currently Moods has about 40 U.S. wholesale accounts and own 14 of their own stores internationally. The goal is to roll out 12 to 15 more stores over the next five years and launch e-commerce at the end of September.
