HODINKEE AND MERCI INSTRUMENTS RELEASE LIMITED EDITION WATCH

by John Russel Jones

Hodinkee, the leading destination for all things watches and horology, has partnered with Merci, a Paris-based retailer and the founder of watch brand Merci Instruments, on the Merci Instruments Beaumarchais H02 Limited Edition for Hodinkee.

Founded in 2009, Merci serves as a gallery space, studio, and restaurant. Founded in 2008 by Benjamin Clymer as a watch blog, Hodinkee is now a multi-channel online destination for watch enthusiasts, including print, digital, and video content, and an e-commerce platform.

This partnership marks the brands’ second collaboration. This time, they aimed to achieve the finest aesthetic while crafting a great dress watch priced at under $700. Inspired by vintage dress watches from the 1940s featuring decagon or octagon-shaped cases, the Beaumarchais H02 is encased in a striking octagonal frame.

The 36mm case houses a dial layered with a brushed steel rehaut, an anthracite grey hour track, and a vertically brushed center. Positioned at 6 o’clock, the dial highlights NYC and Paris, complemented by a blue-painted seconds hand. By employing the ultra-thin Japanese-manufactured Miyota 9039, an automatic caliber boasting a 42-hour power reserve, Merci Instruments managed to maintain the case thickness at just 9.8mm. The watch has an 18mm Honey Brown leather strap and steel buckle to complement the case and dial design. This watch ultimately achieves the goal set by Merci Instruments founder Arthur Gerbi (above), which is to design and curate products that seamlessly integrate with the other items sold under the Merci brand.

Limited to 500 each, the Merci Instruments Beaumarchais H02 Limited Edition For Hodinkee will be sold exclusively at the Hodinkee Shop for $675.
