J. PRESS RETURNS TO ITS ROOTS WITH ITS FORTHCOMING STORE

by Christopher Blomquist

J. Press, the ultra Ivy League menswear brand, will reopen a store in New Haven, Connecticut in May, thus marking a new chapter for the more than 120-year-old label.

Located at 262 Elm Street, the new 1780-sq.-foot store (rendered above by Peter Newman of Newman Architects) will reflect the brand’s history as it adjoins the previous J. Press location on York Street. J. Press occupied the building at 262 York Street for more than a century until it was severely damaged by a storm in 2013. The new shop on Elm Street is adjacent to the former location and will include two levels of J. Press clothing and accessories.

The new address will house the Heritage and J. Press Pennant collection and sportswear on the first floor. The second floor will be dedicated to tailored clothing, a Made-to- Measure and custom shirt program and a full tailor shop.

The building will also serve as the J. Press e-commerce distribution center and administrative offices.

“J. Press has a long history in New Haven and we are thrilled to find a permanent home for our store in the city of our founding.” said Jun Murakami, President of J.Press USA, in a statement. “We look forward to continuing the rich tradition of classic American style for years to come.”
