JAMES WATSON NAMED SVP OF BRAND DEVELOPMENT AT ROBERT TALBOTT
Robert Talbott, the iconic American luxury lifestyle brand founded by Audrey and Robert Talbott in Carmel, California, in 1950, announces the appointment of James Watson as Senior Vice President of Brand Development. With more than two decades of experience in multi-channel retailing and a proven track record in luxury brand positioning, Watson brings a wealth of expertise to his new role.
His passion for design was nurtured as a child growing up in Yorkshire: both his mother and grandmother were seamstresses, and James learned to sew at an early age. His university years included an internship at the corporate offices of Topman and a stint at Selfridges. This was followed by enviable positions at upscale brands, including Liberty of London, Michael Kors, Slowear, Eleventy, and Jack Victor, each deepening his perspective on the business of fashion.
Watson is delighted to be joining Newtimes as part of the team working on the relaunch of Robert Talbott. “Being part of the Newtimes network gives us a distinct competitive advantage, allowing us to craft exceptional products using the best materials and the expertise of our skilled artisans across Europe. This connection ensures that we will uphold the brand’s legacy while delivering unparalleled craftsmanship, innovation, and service to today’s discerning customers.”
Watson speaks of the brand’s evolution, using words like colorful, whimsical, not so conservative. “Most importantly, we want every item we create to be best-in-class, reflecting the premium components that go into it. We’re also producing enhanced videos showing numerous ways to put the pieces together. And we’re introducing a new stock replenishment service, ensuring consistent availability of high-demand core products. This will allow stores to seamlessly restock, without the burden of overstocking.”
Robert Talbott recently appointed Sebastian Dollinger, formerly of Eton, as Creative Director. His new collection showcases an exquisite array of garments, including versatile dress shirts, refined ties, and a complete line of casual wear featuring blazers, sweaters, pants, knits, and accessories, all designed to elevate the modern gentleman’s wardrobe. Luxurious fabrics and innovative techniques highlight Robert Talbott’s signature style.
“James Watson’s appointment marks a significant milestone in our vision for Robert Talbott’s future,” said Alex Angelchik, Group Managing Director of Newtimes Group. “His exceptional experience in sales and luxury brand development rounds out our executive team and perfectly positions us to elevate the Robert Talbott legacy while meeting the needs of today’s upscale customers.”
