Jim Gold, the president and chief merchandising officer of Neiman Marcus Group, will be departing the company in March after 28 years at the luxury retailer.

Gold joined Neiman Marcus Group fresh out of Harvard Business School in 1991 after receiving his MBA. In 1997, after advancing through a series of buying and store positions, he was promoted to vice president of Neiman Marcus Clearance Store Division.

Subsequently, in 2000, he was named vice president, divisional merchandise manager of women’s designer sportswear. In 2002, he was promoted to senior vice president, general merchandise manager of men’s, cosmetics, and fragrances.

He was appointed president and CEO of Bergdorf Goodman in 2004, a position he held until October 2010.  He began his role as president and CMO at the group in April of 2014.

Gold’s departure date lines up with the March 15 retirement of Neva Hall, executive vice president of stores at Neiman Marcus, as well as the opening of a new Neiman Marcus location in Manhattan’s Hudson Yards.

Gold’s replacement has yet to be announced.
