LA28 OLYMPIC GAMES X HIRO CLARK

by John Russel Jones

If you’ve ever attempted to informally talk to a designer about the inspiration for product that’s in-store right now, you know that you’ll probably get a blank stare, followed by a little head-scratching, and then, finally, an answer that’s one-part off-the-cuff, one-part remembrances from a storyboard, and a smidgeon of what made it into the season’s official press release. It’s not their fault: Designers usually work on collections that won’t appear for at least a year ahead of what the consumer is buying, so their brains are busy elsewhere. That’s why we can only imagine what the design team at Los Angeles-based Hiro Clark is going through right now: In 2028, Los Angeles will host the Olympic Games for the third time, but before the Olympic torch has even been lit for the 2024 Paris games, the brand has announced the debut of its LA28 Games and Team USA collections.

The four-year program will feature limited-edition products for men and women, with a launch capsule that includes T-shirts, shorts, and sleeveless sweatshirts. The pieces are hand-dyed to match the colors of the Olympic rings, including Winning Streak Blue, Trophy Yellow, Finish Line Black, Glory Green, and World Record Red.

Graphics include Hiro Clark’s iconic inverted Los Angeles graphic and the Olympic classic flag and rings. New text graphic T-shirts exclusive to the capsule include Game On, Champion, and Cheerleader. Retails range from $94 for a graphic T-shirt to $196 for a hooded sweatshirt.
