LIBERTY FAIRS GIVES BACK TO LOCAL HOSPITALS

by Stephen Garner

In times of crisis our great menswear and fashion community comes together to help those in need.

This week we learned of the great efforts being made by Liberty Fashion & Lifestyle Fairs, parent company of Liberty, Capsule, Cabana, and ENVSN Festival, to feed the frontline workers at local New York City hospitals.

To make this happen, Liberty Fairs launched a GoFundMe in order to tap local NYC restaurants, which are also struggling to stay in business throughout this crisis, to provide meals to these healthcare professionals (a win for the restaurants, and a win for the doctors and nurses). So far, the company has raised $25,000 dollars and has been able to deliver 2,500 meals from local restaurants to first responders.

Here we chat with Sharifa Murdock, co-founder of Liberty Fairs, on why the company has chosen to give back to the community in this way and how we can help to contribute to the cause.

Q: Why did you decide to contribute in this way with feeding health care workers?

A: A lot of our family members work in hospitals, so we really understood the impact COVID-19 has had on the healthcare industry and wanted to figure out a way to give back and support. In addition, we had a lot of individuals in our community who were in the local NYC restaurant space like Greedi Vegan, Shoo Shoo, and Harlem Shake and wanted to bring together these two industries and create an initiative to help them out. That’s how we came about to raise funds to give to these restaurants to prepare meals for the healthcare workers in NYC.

Q: How did you determine which hospitals to help out?

A: As we know, NYC has become the epicenter for the COVID-19 pandemic. We knew all the NYC hospitals were going to be affected by the influx of patients so we started reaching out to all hospitals, especially those in low-income areas that would be highly vulnerable during this time. With the help of mutual friends, we gathered all the contacts we could and began reaching out. We were able to secure multiple hospitals including the below:

Woodhull Medical Center, Brooklyn

Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, Brooklyn

Presbyterian Queens Hospital, Queens

Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Manhattan

Lincoln Hospital, Bronx

Elmhurst Hospital, Queens

Harlem Hospital Center, Manhattan

Brooklyn Hospital Center, Brooklyn

NYU Tisch Langone Hospital, Manhattan

Mount Sinai Beth Israel, Manhattan

Long Island Jewish Valley Stream Hospital, Long Island

Memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital, Manhattan

Q: How often are you making deliveries?

A: Currently, we are making at least two to three deliveries a week. Within the two weeks of starting the initiative, we were able to raise $25,000 which has resulted in 2,500 meals delivered. We still need help in raising funds so we can continue feeding the healthcare workers who are risking their lives on the frontline every day.

Q: How can we help?

A: Our goal is to raise $100,000 in order to continue to provide these meals. If anyone would like to donate please visit https://www.gofundme.com/f/liberty-fashion-amp-lifestyle-fairs-cares.

We thank Sharifa and the team at Liberty Fairs for taking on this effort to help our very important health care workers. We hope our readers will consider a donation, if possible. Thank you.
