Madison Avenue Gets Less Stuffy With New Menswear Shops
Madison Avenue — at least one stretch of it — is about to get a little more hip. Brooks Brothers and Paul Stuart have anchored the men’s apparel offerings along Midtown’s stuffy stretch of Madison for decades. But some new clothiers catering to younger dandies are looking to muscle their way in. The Feil Organization, owner of the Modernist landmark known as the Look Building at 488 Madison Ave., recently revamped its one-block stretch of retail space between 51st and 52nd streets and is exclusively courting menswear e-tailers for five spaces. Bonobos moved there in November and Untuckit — a 6-year-old men’s shirt e-tailer — just inked a deal to move into the building in August, The Post has learned. “Most of the trendy, new apparel is coming from online companies,” said Nicholas Forelli, director of leasing for Feil. “So I have been tracking down only online retailers to fill our spaces.” Forelli is in talks with online shoe, tie and suit companies “to complete our ‘menswear row,’ ” he said. “They seem to like to be around each other.” Read more at New York Post.
