Men’s lifestyle magazine Maxim has named Kate Lanphear as its new editor-in-chief. Lanphear joins Maxim from T, the New York Times style magazine, where she was style director. She has also been style director at Elle. Her first issue with Maxim will be March 2015.
With Lanphear’s strong fashion credentials (mostly in the women’s wear world), the move is causing a great deal of speculation about the future tone of the “lad magazine,” which has been known for its bikini-clad cover models and actresses.
Maxim was acquired by Texas-based investor Sardar Biglari in March. According to the New York Post, sources have said Maxim lost $7 million last year. The new owner hired Details publisher Kevin Martinez in July.
