NEW YORK – Cary McMillan, the former chief executive officer of Sara Lee Branded Apparel, has been nominated to the board of directors of specialty retailer American Eagle Outfitters. If approved by shareholders at AEO’s annual meeting on June 12, he would succeed Larry M. Wolf, who is retiring from the board after a four-year stint.

Since 2005, McMillan has been chief executive officer of True Partners Consulting, a professional services firm specializing in finance and taxes. He was with Sara Lee from 1999 to 2004, serving as executive vice president of the corporation as well as chief financial and administrative officer and then CEO of the company’s branded apparel operation, which was spun off as Hanesbrands last year.

Jim O’Donnell, CEO of AEO, said McMillan’s “depth of business experience and financial expertise make him a great addition to our board as we continue to expand our brands while driving strong earnings growth.”

McMillan currently serves on the boards of McDonald’s Corp and Hewitt Associates.

American Eagle operates 835 stores in the US and 73 in Canada. It also operates eight stores under its new Martin + Osa nameplate, which addresses the sportswear needs of adult men and women.
