MIAMI VICE X NAUTICA COLLECTION HITS STORES FOR SUMMER SEASON

by John Russel Jones

Cue up composer Jan Hammer’s Miami Vice Theme, and those of us of “a certain age” will close our eyes and lose ourselves in a pink neon Art Deco reverie. The NBC television show, running from 1984 to 1990, was a fantasy of a glamorous, if somewhat gritty, life that was a welcome break from studying for mid-terms and rushing off to part-time jobs. The aesthetic of the show’s wardrobe would go on to become a subject of derision as the ’90s’ power suits and grunge kicked in. Still, every few years, Crockett and Tubb’s (played by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas) big-shouldered, lightly-colored baggy suits paired with tight-fitting tropically-hued T-shirts (or Henleys or tank-tops) make their way back onto designers’ mood boards, and we can feel like we’re powering across the MacArthur Causeway to Miami Beach in our Ferrari (or under it in a cigarette boat), once again.

To help that fantasy along, Nautica has reimagined the show’s influential styling just in time for warmer weather with its new Miami Vice collaboration. The Miami Vice x Nautica collection offers a fresh take on the past and pays tribute to the hit NBC television series. The collaboration with Universal Products & Experiences features preppy pastels, bold graphic designs, polo shirts, patterned swim trunks, and, of course, the oversized white suit synonymous with the show’s iconic style.

“The influence of Miami Vice on fashion and culture is undeniable,” said Jarrod Weber, Group President Lifestyle, Chief Brand Officer, Authentic Brands Group, owner of Nautica. “By partnering with Universal Products & Experiences, Nautica channels the spirit of the 1980s while redefining summer style for modern wardrobes. We are pleased to present this collection to our consumers as it taps into the legacy of this culturally iconic show.”

The collection is available in sizing XS – XXL and ranges in price from $34.50 – $218. The collaboration is now live and can be found at Nautica.com, Belk.com, Macys.com, as well as in select Belk and Macy’s stores.
