Nanushka’s spring/summer 2022 collection, entitled “Harmónia,” explores the creative potential of balance. Seeing an opportunity to find purpose through process, brand founder and designer Sandra Sandor’s interest in creating with a mindful approach is showcased this season, establishing relationships between opposites and seeking a sense of equilibrium. Bringing seemingly disparate materials, design motifs, and references together, the collection sets up a conversation around fluidity during a period of constant change.

Continuing Nanushka’s long-standing play with juxtaposition, inspired by Sandor’s upbringing in Budapest – a city built on the discourse between east and west – this season celebrates harmony. Contemporary materials meet traditional hand-craft techniques, silhouettes are relaxed and comfortable but cut with sharp lines that project statement elegance. Crafty merrow stitching distinguishes signature vegan leather separates. Tubular tie details are used to create draping on slip satin silhouettes. Cut-out shapes, intricate embroidery, and upcycled organic cotton patchwork are inspired by traditional Hungarian tablecloths, reworked with refined modernity.

Accessories strengthen the balance of energy for spring/summer 2022, creating elevated focal points that are styled into multiple looks. Eggshell and khaki origami-inspired folding box bags in vegan leather with crochet seam detailing, slouchy sustainable suede hobo bags, and hand-crocheted basket bags made from reclaimed off-cuts elaborate on conscious creativity.

For spring/summer 2022, single looks are made up of a composite of layers, both literally and figuratively. Elevated materials and sensual silhouettes explore ideas of aesthetic modernity, functionality, luxury, and responsibility. Bold colors run through the collection, hinting at a return to the joy of dressing. Green, blue, and lilac satin are styled poignantly at just the collar or cuffs.

Shape continues to explore the narrative, with fitted tops and dresses layered over voluminous, floor-pooling pants and boxy tailored blazers paired with kick-flare suit trousers. Skirts, pants, and shirts are imagined in lightly textured seersucker and tweed that communicate alongside structured regenerated leather. Crochet features throughout, for a homely but luxurious feeling, while pleats are made using heavy poplin.

“As a brand, Nanushka has a long-standing interest in celebrating difference: we draw inspiration and energy from nature, while living in metropolitan centres; our design team and the inspiration they bring comprises heritage from East and West, celebrated through our design for the way they interconnect creatively,” said Sandor. “For spring/summer 2022, we’re searching for balance. Built around surprising opposites, reimagined fabric techniques, and contrasting elements of shape and form, Harmónia unifies diverse themes and achieves a sense of calm, manifested through sensuality, tactility, and, ultimately, practicality. Each of the collection’s looks may seemingly be made up of a series of disparate ideas, but together form a unified and wearable proposition.”
