Obituary: Arthur “Artie” Arbesfeld

NEW YORK – Funeral services have been held for Arthur “Artie” Arbesfeld, a longtime sales executive for Harry Irwin who died Saturday, April 21, after suffering a heart attack.

Services were held at Sinai Chapel in the Fresh Meadows section of Queens on Tuesday, April 24.

Arbesfeld, a native of Brooklyn, NY, joined Harry Irwin in 1954 and went on to spend 36 years with the firm, briefly joining Hart Schaffner Marx after it acquired the company. He then went to Bagir Ltd. where he served as national sales manager until his retirement about six years ago.

“He loved his work,” said his widow, Sylvia Arbesfeld, “his accounts and the people he knew from traveling on the road.”

She noted that attendees at his funeral included industry friends from as far away as Omaha, Neb.

In addition to his wife, survivors include his son, Mark; a daughter, Gail; a brother, Mel; a sister, Eileen Glick; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Jaime and Max.
