PRADA RELEASES ANTI-PLASTICS SAILING KIT
After months of training sessions, the 36th America’s Cup presented by Prada is ready to begin. To celebrate the event and give customers and supporters the chance to test what the team will be wearing, a selection of the official team uniforms will be made available.
This line was made in partnership with Prada and The Woolmark Company, which teamed up on a kit for the Prada Luna Rossa sailing team for the upcoming 2021 America’s Cup. The resulting collection consists of three items including the official sailing team jacket, the official short-sleeve polo, and the official technical t-shirt.
These high-performance garments are created with Merino wool, a biodegradable and renewable fiber, with a very low impact both in its production cycle and disposal, and with extraordinary breathability and waterproof characteristics, these garments are a natural innovation ensuring maximum comfort and high levels of performance, as well as for everyday use. The intention of the wool-heavy kit is for Prada and the sailing team to move away from using synthetics that release micro-plastics into the ocean.
The official sailing team jacket is a three-layer garment that comprises 54 percent Australian Merino wool bonded with a waterproof membrane resistant to 11 water columns, for extreme water resistance and full breathability. The official short-sleeve polo is made of 100 percent Merino wool and is comfortable next to the skin and machine washable. And, the official technical t-shirt includes 36 percent Merino wool: a must-have in sportswear, thanks to its high breathability and resistance to odors and sweat.
The official Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli collection will be available this week at selected Prada flagship stores on prada.com. And, from December 17th, the line will be sold at the Luna Rossa store at the America’s Cup Village in Auckland.
