PUTTING STOCK IN STOCK

by Karen Alberg Grossman

For those retailers tired of seeing the same old styles from showroom to showroom, booth to booth, check out Robert Stock’s Stock Collection at the Chicago Collective on the new fourth floor. “For the past 50 years,” says the award-winning designer, “I’ve always tried to be different. My mission was to create clothes that make people feel happy. When I left Ralph after many years of working with him, I wanted to design clothes that looked nothing like Ralph. When I left Robert Graham, I tried to create looks that didn’t scream Robert Graham. Ironically, my new Stock Collection, in its second season for Spring ’25, is a little bit Ralph, a little bit Robert Graham. Most of all, these are shirts to generate smiles. They’re fun, exciting, different but not crazy… They’re not for the timid: wear these shirts and you get noticed!”

Here, at top, and below: Spring ’25 shirts from the Stock Collection.

Stock created about 36 different styles for Spring ’25. All shirts are made in India of linen, cotton, or cotton with stretch at Stock’s partner factory, Texport. Suggested retails range from $248-$398. At the recent 13th Floor trade show during New York Market Week, retailers loved the hula girls on vintage Indian madras, the guayabera-inspired model in solid linen with a back-embroidered panel, the Hawaiian print model with a map of Hawaii on the back… and many others. Says Stock, “I set out to be a designer for my time. If I continue on this path, I’m hoping to become a designer for all times…”.

  1. Absolutely love all of these. Robert is legend. And there’s truly no existing designer like him.
